This blog is intended to be a place for lifelong learning, drawing inspiration from the folk school movement that began in Denmark.  I have published two chapters on this:

The Life of the People: The Legacy of N.F.S. Grundtvig & Nonviolent Social Change Through Popular Education in Denmark, chapter in Community and the World, Participating in Social Change, Torry Dickinson, ed., NY: Nova Science Publishers, 2003.

Education for Life at Danish Folk Schools and Highlander, chapter in Democracy Works, Joining Theory and Action to Foster Global Social Change, Torry Dickinson, ed. et al.,Boulder,CO: Paradigm Publishers, 2008.

Folk schools are about sharing music and stories and getting acquainted to learn better and to dialogue.  It is a tradition we should all promote to form a more social democratic society to create a better quality of life across all classes as it has done in Scandinavia and other countries around the world.

Themes will include Grundtvig and the folk school movement which he inspired, social democracy and its relationship to popular education, the happiness factor of linking popular education and social democracy, music, music and social change, films, Creation Spirituality, Lutheranism and more….

How do we join the blog to receive posts into our email accounts?

    • That’s a good question, Mary. I don’t know how to do that yet. I have restricted messages in my email because of spam so will try to give you a better answer before long. Thank you for your interest!
